We had a look at 9 of the most popular hashtags used on twitter.

All of these hashtags appear in tweets which contain the word "travel" but how far do they reach. What ones get more retweets than others? How many of these tweets contain links?

These statistics are based on the hashtags estimated hourly reach.

Lets have a look.

#travel

#travel

With 1475 unique tweets every hour and the hashtag having a potential audience of 13.99 million its safe to say you should be included this hashtag in all your travel related post but you were doing this already.

#ttot

#ttot

#ttot or Travel Talk on Twitter is a pretty hot hashtag to be using. It doesn't have some of the same clout that #travel does but with less noise and the right content I think you could cut through some serious twitter noise to get noticed with this one.

#nature

#nature

Nature and Travel go hand in hand or so you would think. Sticking an engaging image or maybe some holiday snaps with the local wildlife could get you notice using this one.

#photography

#photography

Photography and Travel truly do go hand in hand and the fact that 58% of these tweets contain images speaks for itself.

#japan

#japan

This one is surprising. Japan is one of the most used travel hashtags on twitter. It gains more hourly retweets that #ttot which is directly related to the travel lovers of twitter. Thats a pretty solid piece of information to know.

#wanderlust

#wanderlust

To be fair I've seen this pop up more on Instagram than Twitter but 79 unique tweets an hour using this hashtag it might be worth seeing if you can come up with some content to fit in with the audience using it.

#travelphotography

#travelphotography

This one has nowhere near as much juice as #travel and #photography. I would be using these to hashtags separately and giving this one a miss. Leave you more room to try something new. Every character counts on Twitter.

#tbin

#tbin

#tbin or Travel Bloggers Influencers Network is more geared up to those who review for a living. 100% of all tweets contain a link. That would mean its pretty safe to say that bloggers are using this hashtag to drive more traffic to their blogs.

#hoteldeals

#hoteldeals

With very little retweets and nothing in the way of images this hashtag is destined to be used by online sellers trying to get noticed. Sometimes the most obvious hashtag isn't the best on to be using.
