We’ve been using Switcher Pro for the last couple of months. We’ve been using it for a number of different projects and we want to share some of the great and not so great things we found while using it.

Live streaming can have a huge effect on your business but where do you start and why should you look into something like Switcher Studio.

Switcher will only work with IOS devices so if you have an android phone or tablet then sorry but this blog aint for you. If you have an Iphone then read on. In a nutshell you choose which device you want to be the switcher i.e the main console that has any graphics, videos, controls cameras, audio devices etc. Any other IOS devices you have can act as cameras. Its pretty easy to set up just make sure you are all on the same wifi network. Choose your Switcher, Add the cameras and you’re ready to shoot. Here are some of the things you should know about Switcher.

Multi Camera Switching

Multi Camera Switching

This is one of our favourite features that switcher provides and it’s really easy to set up. Your camera's load into your switcher panel and all you need to do is click on the camera you want to use an the angle will change. This tidy little feature just boosted your production values no end. When you watch it back it will look great.

Bottom Third Graphics

Bottom Third Graphics

Another neat little feature is Switcher will let you load graphics into the bottom third of your video stream. That means it’s really easy to add adverts, name cards and all that jazz without disturbing the flow of your stream.

Macbooks

Macbooks

Syncing a macbook into your live stream is really easy. We just downloaded a little add on to our macbook pro from the Switcher website. Synced it the same way we added the cameras and then we could instantly cast our macbook screen into the live stream. This makes referencing articles, videos, pictures and websites really easy and again you just boosted your production values tenfold.

Audio

Audio

There are some really good feature for audio sources with Switcher. Firstly you can choose any IOS device as the main sound source. So using the built in Iphone microphone gives you a really good starting point for your live stream. You can also use an external audio source. We used an Irig to put a small 4 channel mixer into the Ipad we were using as our Switcher. That allowed us to set up 3 microphones for all the people on our show but also use the mini jack out from the macbook to play audio on the videos we were playing. All very handy.

Switcher allows you to either record your video straight onto your Ipad or Iphone’s memory for later upload or you can use it to live stream directly which is what we used it for. Setting the stream key up and using the RMTP address for facebook can be a bit pernicity if you haven't done it before but by the fourth time we used it it was no bother at all.

Switcher is a great bit of kit to get you rolling in the world of live streams and separate you from your competition but it does cost $25 (£19.32) a month to use the program. We use it constantly so it is well worth the payment in our eyes but you can always set up a single phone on Facebook like to get everything moving.
